falling’s not the problem, when i’m falling i’m at peace..

so, the summer is all over, the interns have left, all camp day is done and the winners were announced (Spirit won for the older kids and Faith won for the younger kids) the golden crates were delivered and the kids went absolutely crazy for them!

so since i last updated, i definitely still owe y’all stories, but i feel like more exciting things have happened since then. there are some pictures from all camp day on the urban website (because i was useless at taking pictures this last week or two… sorry) and i may see if heather has any on her camera. (YES!) (all photos taken by heather bradshaw, unless i tell you otherwise…)

that stitch you see up there? the big blue creature? that was our mascot. a chicken wire body, pillow stuffed inside, chicken wire and paper mache head, felt, acrylic and a crap load of material… Derrick was our willing volunteer to be our crazy mascot, he mastered the rib-stick surfboard, and generally jumped around like a crazy alien monster the rest of the morning. I literally sat at a sewing machine or with paper mache for two days  making the costume. we made flowers for all the girls as well as totem poles/tiki men and a pretty bomb poster….

so that was all camp day. and those are a few of the other mascots…

after that was all over, we had some serious tidying up to do

(a work group person hoovering my classroom! thanks! looking really bare right now, all the art is off the walls…)

and then, the interns left and i’m hanging out with the few people who are around- and trying to plan a trip to see Charlotte in vancouver…

however, since i have all this new free time… i have a chance to have adventures… Heather, AJ and i joined Josh, Regine and Brent for mini-golfing on friday night and during the course of the evening decided to camping the next day (except AJ, as he was leaving for home).

Saturday afternoon, we set off for our adventure to hickory run state park. Brent picked us up and we headed out to PA to meet Josh and Regine. couple hours of traffic, supply shopping, steak marinading later and one or two wrong turns later, we arrived at our campsite for the night. tents pitched, fire going and the cooler waiting, we were set. the guitar came out, we sang some, we ate, we talked and we laughed… later on we adventured our way across the field til we were further away from any other tents and could therefore play guitar and sing without waking anyone up…. we were joined by four guys from PA who’d all left their wives at home and were enjoying a weekend of hiking and drinking. they followed the sounds of our guitar through the undergrowth till they found us on our little bridge, playing, talking, singing and wondering at the beauty of the stars and of nature.

all in all it was a great weekend, and one that i hope we can repeat at some point in the future. though maybe the next time we won’t get rained out of camp on sunday morning…..

before we left (pretty wet, but happy) Heather took a wander to get some pictures… so enjoy.
