i get these urges to make things sometimes. i need to finish off what i’m wearing right, or i just want a certain look a certain way, or i really want to give someone something beautiful. whatever. yesterday i needed to make a new headband, and today i needed to keep wearing it. buttons are an enduring love in my life. so even though you can’t see all these, know they are cute. :)

so we were in NYC last night. bowling for spring break. we took a couple kids, we had some fun, we raised a pretty nice amount of money. (we definitely have enough for a delightful spring break!) and it was a real long night. the place was pretty impressive, part bar, part lounge, part bowling alley- like nothing i’ve ever been in before (at least on that scale.)

they had a dress code.

i mean, come on. ok, it’s new york. we almost didn’t get in, too many people wearing boots and hats and too many minors… they relented though, after giving us a stern talking to.

i love my classroom. i get to sit and watch over everyone from the desks that wrap around two walls (it’s a tiny room, when all 13 or 14 of my 7th graders are there, it’s a little oppressive…) and occasionally, when homework is dne and everyone is engaged, i get to read a page or two. on even better days, i get to read with my kids (though it’s not usually anita shreve that we read together…)

also my favourite jeans are developing holes. so i have to layer them with leggings, cos i haven’t bothered to fix them yet. boo. the other pair are getting to that point too, and have more than their fair share of epoxy to boot… ooops.

we spent sunday in New Hope PA, an eccentric town about an hour and some north of Camden. two services, one adult education class, lots of mingling and one meal later we were on our way home. there was so much beauty around though, cherry blossom everywhere.

i ended the night with a third service- pm at circle of hope, and a visit to the diner with Kristin. she drew me a picture..

saturday morning, i’ve just taken my kid to school and i’m home again, reading, relaxing a little, pondering what the day will hold. and i notice the light hitting Dacia’s foot as she sleeps on the couch. a little later i get a call and head out to the boatshop for the rest of the day, working hard at sanding and fibreglassing some inside seams on the canoes our kids are building. long day. worthwhile. ending with a soreness well earned from hard work.

and i forgot to take the camera out again all day.

it’s finally spring. the weather has been so unpredictable, cold then warm, then cold, thunderstorms, lightning… but the daffodils are out. the tulips are out too. days are getting warmer, longer, sweeter in general.

i stole these glasses from one of my kids- i assumed (as usual. again wrong. i need to stop assuming things.) that he’d take them back. he hasn’t so far. but anyway. my classroom is finally beginning to be a haven for people who want to create stuff. painting goes on most afternoons… yeah.

so i made it to a hindi music festival the other week. i wished i had shalwar kameeze with me. but i didn’t, so instead i wore this. and had a blast with Kristin and Molly. and was encouraged in the random picture taking by a stranger. (‘taking lots of pictures is how you learn and get better, right?!’)

love a little bit of zac brown band.

so friday was march madness, when we took a bunch of kids from each of the older camps to rutgers gym and played a lot of three on three basketball. and eventually some people won.

yesterday we added a third dog to the menagerie. carter is the oldest dog of the trio, and he had been looked after by another urban friend, but as she was going to be away all of today, we got him back. and the boys went crazy. they were overjoyed to have him back and spent the entire night licking his face and butt and whatever. it was a little perturbing, mostly because we got the impression that the dogs thought that carter had died or something (he’s definitely getting close to that) and so they’re going crazy trying to look after him. today though, they decided they don’t need to eat. hopefully they’ll figure out where the food is and when they’re hungry enough, they’ll eat.

the joy that they had to see each other again.

i didn’t get any pictures of all the festivities though, i was trapped in the couch….

one of my favourite pictures in the house. :)
